Nope, there’s no law stating 20 year olds need to “man up’ and watch low quality tv instead of real entertainment.

dealing with the man who knows absolutely EVERYTHING?

Question by Bella: dealing with the man who knows absolutely EVERYTHING?
and always has to tell you about it… we (my fiance and i) went to my dads work today to visit and see his new truck, and i mentioned as we drove into the parking lot and saw it, “i’m surprised he got black, he’s never had anything close to black.” and he said, “well have you ever seen me drive anything silver like my car?” i let that go, no big deal… then, i mentioned that i wondered why he didnt take the cargo rack off the back of the old truck and put it on the new one, and again, got a list of possible reasons why my father would do this… then, i happened to mention how much i liked my old pathfinder way better then my saturn… then i got a lesson of how foreign cars are so much better and thats where i lost him and made him stop.. i asked nicely, but i got my point across.. he tells me later that i pissed him off.. ugh.. the other thing is, last night, i stayed at his house because the weather was atrocious… tonight, it wasnt so bad, and i was gonna go home around 8:30, before this movie came on that he wanted to watch with the kids… he asked me to stay for the movie, because its more fun for everyone when im around.. so, i said ok… around 10:30, when the movie had a 1/2 hour left he says, “so, i dont mean to be a pain in the azz, but are you staying or are you going home?” so, i was like, whatever, went out and started my car.. when the movie was over, i left… i called him to tell him i was home, and when he asked if i was ok, i said, “yes, but for the record, i will never invite myself to stay at your house when your kids are there.. if you want me to stay, ask.. if not, then leave it… dont make me feel guilty…” and he was like, “again?….” and i said, “what do you mean, ‘again?’ ” he says, “forget it, we’ll talk tomorrow… good night…” and that was it… now, none of this he sounds like a jerk stuff… yes, he does sound like a jerk, on this day… but more often then not, he’s really a great man… but how do i deal with his complete know it all- ness…. i can only yes him to death so much

Which degree and career after several failures and boredom?

Question by : Which degree and career after several failures and boredom?
No offense, but if you are not particularly researched, well-read or experienced in the depth of this question, and if you don’t feel like you have specific insight that can help, then please save yourself the time and don’t worry about posting or helping. Here’s why: I spent more than 10 years trying to find an answer, read dozens of books, thousands of pages, paid hundreds if not a few thousands in seeking professional help, and until this day, I still can’t answer the question for myself.

Here are some specifics to give you an idea of how awesomely difficult it has been: books I read include The Pathfinder, Do What You Are, What Color Is Your Parachute, The Element. Professionals I paid for include hypnotherapists and life coaches. I also paid for commercial psychometric and personality tests. I’ve been reading self-improvement books generally for about 20 years. I’ve tried a paid course or program of career self-discovery. I’ve paid for degree / college courses, bought books, but it often seemed like I simply could not get myself to keep studying or doing the work needed; I don’t know if I can precisely call it boredom, but that’s just the most common word used. The fact of the matter is…I just couldn’t get myself to keep pushing until the end, until I earn a full degree or so. I’ve also tried a variety of jobs and careers, including acting, web development and graphic design, writing, research, administration, and entrepreneurship. I’ve practiced my fair share of escapism to forget about all this confusion in real life, by playing computer or video games, or watching movies and TV series on disc. Many tests and readings pointed me to the possibility of psychology or being a psychologist; other things pointed me to the career or message of being a preacher, a man of the cloth, or a religious leader, whatever you want to call it. But at one point or another, I lose interest in the coursework or the books. I don’t feel like I enjoy the studying and reading eventually, even though I am sure that I can enjoy reading and studying, just not everything.

It’s easy to just label myself as a quitter, but first, that doesn’t really resolve my problem and it is not an accurate conclusion anyway given the things I’ve learnt from years of studying self-improvement, and secondly, I can surprise even myself, let alone critics, by my “selective” tolerance to prolonged activities. I am perfectly capable of doing the same, exact thing for much longer than the average person I’ve met; obviously I am just selective in when I do this, and unfortunately I can’t really make a living or add something to the world with any of the activities that can absorb me for dozens of hours or days…they’re mainly activities that involve not living in real life, not thinking of it…so chain-watching all episodes of a TV series or playing a particularly enthralling game with a good story. And obviously I don’t want to live much longer like this…I’d rather add something to the world, be useful to myself, family, and others.

Finally, allow me to also tell you some accomplishments that may prove that I am not the type of person who just enjoys lack of accomplishment or hard work: I was the top student in high school, academically and athletically, with top grades and also Most Valuable Player accomplishments for sports teams; in many organizations where I worked (and eventually got soul-drained or bored to tears from the jobs), I built positive relationships or even friendships with some of the leaders in those organizations; I’ve impressed co-workers and some managers with my creative ideas and enthusiasm to improve work procedures, the way things are done, and for the good of all.

So…would you have an idea why someone like me can’t settle for a degree or course option and finish it without feeling too stressed and tired or bored of it? Do you know how I can research or heart-monitor my way to my calling? Do you know what degree or career would be ideal for me, or at least won’t bore me to tears? =)

And here is an easier question…can you relate to any of this? Am I as hopeless and alone as I sometimes imagine I am?
I do hope a wise stranger or two pass by and feel like sharing something that can benefit me and others!

Regarding getting my CV professionally written or edited, already done. That mainly increases one’s chance of getting interviews, little more. My question is about finding a job that can be at least tolerable for a few years, let alone an ideal career that makes someone feel some love for the labor. “It’s just a job” and “you don’t have to like it” isn’t working for me, and hasn’t worked for more than 10 years.

Are there people in sciences, computer science and engineering who watch cartoons?

Question by : Are there people in sciences, computer science and engineering who watch cartoons?
I want to know if there are people in engineering and computer science who love to watch cartoons all the time(cartoons like Johnny Test or Atomic Betty or any other cartoons). I am asking this because I heard that engineers watch sports, and live action shows(two and a half men, the big bang theory, etc) and never cartoons(My sisters and cousins are these kinds of people). And that people who are in creative arts and social sciences watch cartoons.

Answer by Leandro
Of course yes. There is not any kind of relationship between your studies and what do you like to do to distract and to have some quality spare time! If you fancy watching cartoons, there’s nothing wrong on it, keep it up.

See you.
